What are the presentation guidelines?

Presentations may be about any literary, cultural or linguistic topic related to Spanish, Hispanic-American or Luso-Brazilian literature or linguistics. Panels will be made up of 3-4 presentations, each limited to 20-minutes, after which there will be a session of questions and  answers. Handouts/photocopies are the responsibility of the presenter. Presentations may be made in English, Spanish or Portuguese.


Please be sure to submit your bio so that the moderator can introduce you by filling in the online form.

What should I do if I need technology or photocopies?

Technology: All session rooms are equipped with a smart cart which includes PowerPoint, etc.

Photocopies: You can make copies at the Paley Library (you must show a picture ID and sign in to enter). Someone at the sign in desk or the reference desk (once you enter, go to the left) can direct you to the photocopiers.

 

What criteria will be used for selection?

Your abstract will be reviewed anonymously by the conference organizing committee.

Abstracts will be assessed on a scale of 0-5 based on the following three criteria:
  1. The relevance and significance of the proposed topic and/or the originality of the study.
  2. The argumentation (including the clarity of the argument and the results/conclusions).
  3. Knowledge of the relevant research literature and theory.

How will I know if my abstract has been accepted?

Your abstract will be reviewed upon receipt and you will receive an email confirmation of receipt and later of acceptance or rejection. If your abstract is rejected you are free to resubmit a different one.

Will my paper be published?

No. At time time we are unable to take on such a large project but perhaps in the future.

When do I present?

The conference program will be completed by September 15, 2008. It will be sent to the presenters to make sure that there is no time conflict and subsequently posted online by the beginning of October. If you are coming from abroad or have logistical restrictions, please let us know: tucsps@temple.edu.

Where do I stay?

Hotels - Please stay at one of the hotels that we have contracted at discounted rates.

Crash Pads - If you are presenting and coming from out of town and need a place to stay because it is financially impossible for you to stay at a hotel, then you may stay with one of our students. Space is VERY limited and reserved on a first come, first served basis. To request a "crash pad", please confirm your participation and send an email to tucsps@temple.edu subject: crash pad!.

What else do I need to know?

Completed Acceptance means that your abstract has been approved by your corresponding committee and you already have completed registration and paid for the conference. If your registration is incomplete, then you have not confirmed your participation.

Letter of invitation

In the event that you are presenting and need a letter of invitation for your embassy. Send an email to tucsps@temple.edu subject: invitation letter. Include your full name, address, affiliation and the title of your abstract and a letter will be emailed to you in the form of a .pdf file.

How do I register for the conference?

To register you must go to the registration page and you can register online or dowload and print a registration form. You also have the choice of paying with cash, a personal check or credit card (PayPal). Be sure to read all of the information posted and review your registration form before submitting.

Must I register for the conference if I am giving a paper?

Yes. In order to confirm your participation you must register for the conference.

Must my accompanying family member register for the conference?

Yes. All persons attending the conference must register.

How much is the registration fee?

The registration fees vary, so it is important that you review the most up-to-date fee schedule on the registration page.

Can I register for just one day of the conference?

No. Since the registration is a flat fee, you can only register for the conference as a whole.

Where does the conference take place?

The conference will be held on Temple University’s Main Campus in the Howard Gittis Student Center located at 13th street and Montgomery Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19122
